As San Diego Padres Owner and proud member of The Lucky Duck Foundation, Peter Seidler embodied the spirit of community, charity and and a hopeful vision for the people of San Diego. This Dia de Los Muertos, we are proud to honor him with an Ofrenda to his memory and for the tremendous work he did for our community and our beloved San Diego Padres.

Born in Alhambra, CA, Peter Seidler was the 2nd oldest of 10 children. He grew up in Pasadena, and his siblings affectionately referred to him as "Pedro". Peter was the consummate family man, coaching his siblings baseball and basketball teams, and his sister Annie Seidler recalled that "He was the master of pranks, was very empathetic and encouraging, dedicated and driven. He always had an open door policy." Even his ringtone showed his lighthearted humor, sounding off quacks every time the phone rang. At 62 years old, he "Toilet Papered" his brothers house. He later married his wife Scheel in Ireland, and had three children of their own. Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman once remarked that “His kids came up with the heart with PS in the middle of it”, "He loved big".
Peter was unflinchingly positive, and had a gift for making people feel seen. He listened more than he spoke, and had a real sense of compassion for people and other things. He wanted to incorporate that into who he was and how he was going to operate in San Diego. His personal mission was to relieve the suffering of the homeless.

"Darkness had swallowed up the 7-Eleven along Mission Boulevard in Pacific Beach. It was after 11 p.m. on a weeknight, when the tourists scatter and those without homes turn up collars and blankets to fend off the bracing ocean cold. Mixing among them was the owner of a Major League Baseball team who, at the time, was the face of the $1.5 billion Seidler Equity Partners.
While others scrambled to other sidewalks and parts of the street. Peter Seidler began conversations, offering compassion and empathy. He snapped up hot dogs for men sitting on the sidewalk out front, the forgotten and disconnected.
I did two or three of those wee-morning walks with Seidler, never betraying his anonymity. I wanted to see how he handled the sometimes scary streets at night where mental health issues, drugs and financial wreckage leave far too many adrift. I wanted to see how those mired in a litany of life challenges interacted to the kindness of a stranger who secretly was one of the most influential change agents in San Diego. There was absolutely nothing guarded or phony about the connections he forged, ambling up and down the boardwalk until 1 a.m. or later."
A story of Peter's compassion, as told by his wife, Scheel Seidler

Taken from The Lucky Duck Foundation
Peter Seidler was a member of the Lucky Duck Foundation’s Executive Committee and co-founder of the “Tuesday Group.” Peter’s focus and positivity in addressing homelessness were unmatched. He was off the charts amazing on so many levels in his deep commitment to and passion for helping San Diego’s unsheltered neighbors find a brighter path. He insisted that the Tuesday Group meet weekly to determine what the private sector and philanthropy (via the Lucky Duck Foundation) could do to accelerate change and instigate political will, and it is due to his leadership that the Tuesday Group has not missed a weekly meeting since its inception in 2016, including all holidays.
While Peter will be deeply missed, his passing will only increase our focus and resolve to immediately prevent and alleviate the suffering of homelessness throughout San Diego County.
